THE ESSENCE OF DISCIPLINE – BeGreat Devotional – January 6

Scripture Reference: “Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Hebrew 12: 11

You never achieve greatness if you do not have a disciplined life. Discipline is the soul of an army. Discipline is the ability to do things as they are required, not as convenient. Discipline is bringing yourself under the required law for the desired output. If you must conquer the world, you must conquer yourself. Jesus said in the book of Mathew 7:13 – 14 “that broad is the way to destruction and narrow is the way to life”. We often misunderstand that statement. When Jesus said, “Broad is the way to destruction,” vs. 15, He was talking about life without boundaries.

Life without boundaries will end in destruction. A life without boundaries is life without discipline. That is when you just do anything as you like. You live your life anyhow without planning. Without discipline, you eat at any time. You drink just anything, and you have sex with just anybody. Life without boundaries will lead to destruction.

When Jesus said, “Narrow is the way to life,” vs. 16, He meant a life with boundaries. You need to know when to eat, how to eat, what to do with your time. You need to know how to handle your life with discipline. “Narrow is the way…” is not to restrict us from fulfilling our lives. No, it is the boundaries that enable us to fulfill destiny. It is discipline. I have said again and again that you must not waste time waiting for inspiration. Begin where you are and inspiration will find you.

If you keep waiting for feelings before you do what you need to do, you will never achieve greatness. You have to do it whether you feel like it or not. When you start, the feelings will come. A student that waits to feel like studying before studying will end up in dismal failure.
