Teach Us To Pray [PART 9]

Topic: Teach Us To Pray {9}

Sub-topic: The Art of Prayer

Bible text: Luke11:1

In the last part of this series, we concluded on the warfare art of prayer.  Emphasizing importance of knowing the right technical know-how as we are triumphant church and not a militant church. Courtesy of  Christ who makes the provision via His victory on the cross of Calvary.

Today we proceed to the last art of prayer which is Agreement / Cooperate Prayer. Trusting the Holy Spirit for light, edification and transformation { Amen}.

“For EVERY ONE that asketh RECEIVETH; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened” {Luke11:10}.

Agreement Prayer is joint prayer amidst group of believers. Also known as Cooperate Prayer. The range is within two or more believers upward.

“Again I say unto you, That if TWO of you shall AGREE on EARTH as touching any thing that they shall ASK, it shall be DONE FOR THEM of my Father which is in heaven. For where TWO or THREE are gathered TOGETHER in my Name, there am I in the midst of them” {Matt18:19-20}.

In Cooperate Prayer, all the aforementioned prayers we have treated in the earlier parts can be entreated together. In the Contemporary world, this is more obtainable in small group cells, church, family members and the likes.

“And THEY continued steadfastly in the apostles doctrine and FELLOWSHIP, and in PRAYERS… PRAISING God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the CHURCH daily as such as should be SAVED” {Acts2:42-47}.

“There was a certain MAN in Caesarea called CORNELIUS, a centurion of the band called the Italian band. A devout man, and one that feared God with ALL his HOUSE, which gave much alms to the people, and PRAYED to God alway”{Acts10:1-2}.

As Prayer is originally a dialogue between a Man and God; when it becomes MEN and God, the following conditions must be met for effectiveness:

1. ONENESS in Faith and Spirit:

“Can TWO walked together except they be AGREED?” {Amos3:3}.

“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were ALL with ONE accord in ONE place…And they were ALL filled with the HOLY Ghost and began to speak with other TONGUES as the Spirit gave them Utterance”{Acts2:1-4}.

Oneness in Faith and Spirit means  believeing and praying to the same God.

“And when THEY heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with ONE accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea and all that in them is… And when they had PRAYED, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were ALL filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the Word of God with boldness” {Acts4:24-33}.

2. Oneness in Vision and Focus:

“And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ DOCTRINE and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers…And ALL that BELIEVED were TOGETHER and had ALL things COMMON”{Acts2:42-44}.

Oneness in Vision and Focus means  having one doctine, purpose and pursuit.

“Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; …As they MINISTERED to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. And when THEY had FASTED and PRAYED, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away” {Acts13:1-3}.

“And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely: Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks. And at midnight PAUL and SILAS PRAYED, and sang PRAISES unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great EARTHQUAKE, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were LOOSED”{Acts 16:23-26}.

3. ONENESS in Soul and Spirit: This is needed for effective prayer between Husband and Wife because their soul and spirit has been knitted together in marriage.

“For this cause shall a MAN leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his WIFE, and they TWO shall be ONE flesh” {Eph5:31}.

“Likewise, ye WIVES, be in SUBJECTION to your own HUSBANDS; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives”

“Likewise, ye HUSBANDS, dwell with them according to KNOWLEDGE, giving HONOUR unto the WIFE, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your PRAYERS be not HINDERED”{1Peter3:1,7}.

It is the precious will of God that when we come together as brethren in UNITY and we call on the only ONE God, He will always hear our Prayers{ Ps133:1-4, 1Cor14:29-33, Heb10:21-25}.

Verse of the day:

“The GRACE of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the LOVE of God, and the COMMUNION of the Holy Ghost, be with you ALL. Amen”{2Cor13:14}.

Action point: It is not GOOD for a MAN to be ALONE. Cherish and Value the Fellowship of  the brethren in peace and unity.
