Teach Us To Pray [PART 7]

Teach Us To Pray [PART 7]

Topic: Teach Us To Pray {7}

Sub-topic: The Art of Prayer

Bible text: Luke11:4b

In the Last part of this series, we talked about Forgiveness/Remission Prayer where we ask for God’s leniency towards an offense committed. However we learnt it is the will of God for us to walk with Him Purity because He has supplied us the Grace already. Today we proceed to the Warfare art of Prayer. Trusting the Holy Spirit for His utterances and wisdom again.

“And lead us not into TEMPTATION; but deliver us from EVIL.”{Luke11:4b}.

Warfare is the waging of war against an enemy. warfare Prayer is the kind of Prayer where we war against the Flesh, Satan and his Kingdom.

Life is a Warfare and never a Funfair. The battle between Light and Darkness has ever been since the beginning {Gen1:2-5, John1:5}. And because we are the Children of Light, Darkness is always roaming and hovering around for VICTIM {1Peter5:8, James4:7}. But thank God we are VICTOR already in Christ Jesus because we are fighting a War that has been FINISHED on the Cross of Calvary { John19:30, Rom8:35-39}.

Constituents of Warfare Prayer

1. Temptation

2. Trial/Test

3. Kingdom of Darkness

In this part we will be addressing the issue of Temptation and Trial.

TEMPTATION: This is the desire to do something Wrong or Evil. These wrong desires comes from the Flesh and sponsored by the Devil.

“For the FLESH lusteth against the SPIRIT, and the Spirit against the Flesh: and these are CONTRARY the one to the other……..” { Gal5:17-21}.

“Dearly Beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from FLESHLY LUSTS which WAR against the Soul”{1Peter2:11}.

“Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the Wilderness to be TEMPTED of the DEVIL”{ Matt4:1}.

To be tempted is not a Sin. But being OVERCOME by Temptation becomes a SIN { James1:14-16, Heb4:15}. Every Believers will always face one temptation or the other as far as we are still in this fallen world and in this Human Vessel{ John17:14-18, 1Cor10:13}.

When we become born again, our spirit man is regenerated but our Flesh still remains the Same{ Gen6:3, John3:6}. For this reason our Sinful Flesh is older than our new spirit man and it’s an ally to the devil. We therefore need to WAR against the Flesh daily in Knowledge of the Word, Vigilance and Prayer{ Colossians3:1-16, Psalm119:11, Matt26:41}.

TRIAL: This is the TEST that comes from God towards Believers.  God loves everybody but He doesn’t trust any human including angels since the fall of Satan and the first Adam{Gen3:21-23; 6:5-6,  Psalms103:14, Jude6}.

“Some time later God TESTED Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied……. “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you FEAR God, because you have not WITHHELD from me your son, your only son.” { Gen22:1-12}.

The Father test for us as His Children is for us to be proved, approved, trusted, promoted and perfected in Christ Jesus.{Gen22:12-18, Exo22:20, Isa53:1-12, Heb12:1-29, Phil2:1-15}.

In this test however, the Devil is the Chief invigilator. It’s one of the cogent reasons why God has not destroyed him and his demons{ Job1:7-12, 2:1-10, Rev12:9-11}. You expect an Invigilator to be quiet in the examination Hall, but it is not so with the Devil because he is full of Evil { John8:44, Job2:7-9, 1 Peter5:6-8}.

And that’s the reason we as believers has to be knowledgeable, discerning, patient, disciplined and prayerful because there’s always TEMPTATION of the Devil in every TRIALS that comes from God.{ Hosea4:6, 2Cor2:11, 1John4:1, James1:3-4, Isa40:30-31, Matt18:24-26, Luke18:1}.

To be TESTED is also not a SIN. But being OVERCOME by TRIALS bring DEVASTATING effect to our Spiritual growth and Christ Likeness {1Cor3:1-3, Eph4:17-32, Gal5:22-26}.

Verse of the day:

“Wherefore SEEING we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of WITNESSES, let us lay aside every WEIGHT, and the SIN which doth so easily BESET us, and let us RUN with PATIENCE the RACE that is set before US. LOOKING unto JESUS the AUTHOR and FINISHER of our FAITH; who for the JOY that was set before him endured the CROSS, despising the SHAME, and is SET down at the RIGHT hand of the THRONE of God.”{Heb12:1-2}.

Action Point: Watch, Study and Pray Always in the  Power of the Holy Spirit.
