So stand strong with the belt of truth tied around your waist, and on your chest wear the protection of right living. On your feet wear the Good News of peace to help you stand strong. And also use the shield of faith with which you can stop all the burning arrows that come from the Evil One.Accept God’s salvation as your helmet. And take the sword of the Spirit—that sword is the teaching of God. (Ephesians 6:14-17)
Don’t be a sitting duck! Here are some pointers on how to hone your warfare skills:
- Study the word ahead of time
- Know your areas of vulnerability by continually praying. “God, examine me and know my mind. Test me and know all my worries. Make sure that I am not going the wrong way. Lead me on the path that has always been right” (Proverbs 139:23-24)
- Find scriptures that speak to the areas of vulnerability the Lord reveals to you. Tip: The YouVersion app is a great tool to use for this purpose. Just search using a key word. For example, if you sin when you speak, type “speak” as your key word. James 1:19 might be your “sword” to carry with you: “Know this my beloved: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger”
Memorize and keep the scriptures handy and ready. To pass tests/examinations, you can only use what you know!
