PRAY CONTINUALLY – BeGreat Devotional – April 7

Scripture Reference

“Pray without ceasing” – 1st Thessalonians 5:17

What does it mean to pray without ceasing? Obviously, it cannot mean we are to be in a head-bowed, eyes-closed posture all day long. Rather, praying continually is an attitude of God-consciousness and God-surrender that we carry with us all the time. Every waking moment is to be lived in an awareness that God is with us and that He is actively involved and engaged in our thoughts and actions.

When Satan fires fiery darts our way in the form of fearful thoughts, anxiety, discouragement, and anger, we are to consciously and quickly turn every thought into prayer and every prayer into thanksgiving. Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).

A life of prayer is a sure way to live victoriously. We must never forget this powerful warfare weapon. When you get up and throughout the day and in the onset of an attack, immediately stop and pray- out loud if necessary, and call upon your covenant Lord for help. He is with you always! He is your defense and shield!

Daily Digest: Also spend time praying in the spirit. One of the benefits of doing this is to strengthen yourself, i.e. bulk up, the spirit man. “He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself,” (1 Corinthians 14:4)

Prayer: Lord, give me strength in my weakness. Give me faith in my fear. Give me power in my powerlessness. I am trusting you. Amen
