A path without obstacles leads nowhere. Greatness is a journey through a jungle where we have to conquer wild beasts, kill the dragon and deal with the many challenges we face. These are experiences that would strengthen us to accommodate the greatness ahead. We must not neglect this factor because the way to success is uphill. Challenges are inevitable.
Joseph faced challenges. It is clear that the bitter experiences Joseph experienced, prepared him for the top. Let us face it, can you imagine God giving you such a beautiful vision of greatness where everything submits to you, including your father and mother but suddenly the journey begins – your first stop is a ‘slave trade show’ where you emerge as the slave. Joseph was sold by his brothers. He found himself in a strange land living in a strange house as a slave boy. I never pray to go through such. It is more than a temptation. I have wondered how Joseph worked joyfully in Potiphar’s house. A boy with a coat of many colors! We have to learn from him. Listen to me, challenges could be a distraction. Fix your eyes on the goal and go through the process joyfully. Secondly, after proving his faithfulness to God by avoiding fornication, he ended up in prison. I wonder how he felt. Could this be the reward of being faithful? No! However, the path to greatness is loaded with challenges. We can handle challenges the way Joseph handled them. In prison, he became a manager. I love this man.
What makes a challenge? There are two standards, the standard of God and that of Satan. Satan presents you an opportunity for a short cut and self-gratification, but your covenant obligation to keep God’s standards creates a challenge. This is the secret. It is the secret to greatness. Eve upheld Satan’s standard, while Joseph upheld God’s standard. Their rewards were different. I choose Joseph. I choose lasting success.
