One of many scriptures we have become so familiar with is Psalm 23, we have become so familiar with it that when we are asked to read it in Church we choose to recite it offhand. We know every bit of that chapter of the bible, which probably is the most popular chapter of the bible. We have become so familiar with it that instead of it birthing spiritual understanding in our heart we only think of it sensually. We even use it as a warfare prayer focus which is not actually wrong, but it is wrong when we pray this scripture with ungodly fear in our heart, it proves that we have not really come to the knowledge of the truth.
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” – Psalm 23:4 (NKJV)
Reading Psalm 23 verse 4, should remind us of the comfort we have in Christ as children of God. When you truly grasp this understanding you will not work with ungodly fear in your heart anymore. This is the consciousness that Elisha walked with;
“15 And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” 16 So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17 And Elisha prayed, and said, “Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 18 So when the Syrians came down to him, Elisha prayed to the Lord, and said, “Strike this people, I pray, with blindness.” And He struck them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.” – 2 Kings 6:15-20 (NKJV)
God is truly with us as children of God, we are called to righteousness – right standing with God. Righteousness is the ability to stand in God’s presence without any form of guilt and inferiority.
6 Just as David also describes the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness apart from works: 7 “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; 8 blessed is the man to whom the Lord shall not impute sin.” – Romans 4:6-8 (NKJV)
We need to walk with this consciousness everyday of our lives till we see God in Glory. Since we say that we are God’s children in Christ, then we must understand that God has responsibilities over us the same way your earthly father have responsibilities over you.
The bible did not say “when I run through the valley…..” it says “when I walk through the valley…..” that is to say it is a consciousness. It is like you walking towards something everybody is running from understanding that you have what it takes to be victorious.
“Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” – 1 John 5:5 (NKJV)
This grace we have received in Christ is not a license to continue in sin (Romans 6:1-3), It is the license to live in the newness of life – pleasing the one who has called us out of darkness into His marvelous light.
“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;” – 1 Peter 2:9 (NKJV)
“that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy;” – Colossians 1:10-11 (NKJV)
If you are reading this and you know you have not yet accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior or you are not sure of your salvation, why not come to Him today. He understands everything you might be going through and He is able to give you victory (Ephesians 3:20).
Jesus is the only way to the Father; “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” – John 14:6 (NKJV). If you are ready to make this decision or you want to rededicate your life back to Jesus say this “Lord Jesus I believe in you, that you took my place on the cross and paid the price for my redemption. Please Lord I ask that you come into my heart today, take over, I am yours and you are mine. Thank You for saving me, Amen.”
