The Topic “Faith” is not new to the body of Christ, in fact it is the most popular word we talk about as Christians. Inasmuch as the word look or sound common to the church, many really haven’t gotten it’s true meaning, many lack the biblical understanding of faith. That is why a lot of people still doubt if faith really works. Many claim they have faith in God, not realising it’s mere hope. In this article we will be considering how faith really work.
Faith – Believe, Trust and Rely.
[Most] blessed is the man who believes in, trusts in, and relies on the Lord, and whose hope and confidence the Lord is.
In the journey of faith, these three words are very essential “Believe, Trust & Rely” One of the reason why people don’t get what they ask in faith is because they haven’t done it the right way. The bible made it clear that whatever we ask for in faith will be given unto us (mark 11:24). So why then are we not getting results? The Holy Spirit is the spirit of truth, he cannot lie, it may be that there is actually a missing link somewhere that is responsible for we not getting our desired result. let’s look at each of these words carefully “Believe, Trust and Rely”;
to believe actually means accepting as true particularly without absolute certainty. To believe means having an opinion or judgement in which a person is fully persuaded. Believe also means to accept an idea or a preposition as true and valid, even though it might not be logical.
The beginning of our faith in God is “believing in Him” (John 3:16, 18, 1 John 5:1, Act 16:31, Hebrews 11:6) but that is certainly not the end of our Christian faith. This is the source of the limitations of getting results with our faith.
You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.
The truth is that even the devil and his demons believe in God, but the deference is that they didn’t accept his as their lord. Many different religions believe in Jesus but as what? It is not enough to stay in the level of believe, God expect more than that. Another reason is thatsome don’t know what it means to believe in God. It sound funny but it truly is the truth.
But without faith it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. For whoever would come near to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him [out].
What most people do is that they hope in God first before believing in God, instead of believing in God as God first before hoping. the difference between hope and believe is that; hope means believing or expecting that something wished for can or will happen. Hope is centered on receiving things. That doesn’t mean that as believers we shouldn’t have hope in God, No! Hope is actually the fuel that drives our faith (Heb 11:1). As believers we should believe God for who he is, not just for what he can do for us.
There must be a personal conviction of who God is, His personality, that He actually exist before then believing Him for what we want Him to do for us. God want us to believe in Him first, that He actually exist and that He is the only sovereign God, the Lord of lords, the King of kings, Not just merely because we want Him to help us with our desire. That even when there is nothing we still believe in Him. This is why many rich people do not believe in God, because they believe that they won’t want or will ever need.
We believing in God is the basis of our conviction as believers. Learn to believe God even when things are tough (Dan 3:17-18).
Trust is when you accept some one’s word or idea because you believe them, or because you believe in the idea itself.
Trust comes after believe.
You trust in someone because deep down there is a belief in you that person could not be wrong.
Trusting God involves taking the back seat and letting God handle the major decisions and situations in your life. It involves letting your will be lost in His will until you start to see things from his perspective and feel things through his heart. You can only trust God if you love him genuinely I. E if you don’t love God genuinely then you cannot trust him.
Trust is a strong believe you have towards something or someone.
As believers we must learn to trust God. we shouldn’t decide for God. A true and sincere trust is allowing God deciding for you, we must be confident about our believe in God.
Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.
Job 13:15 KJV
According to the Bible verse above, if we read through the previous verses, we will see that Job faced tribulations, he could have denounced his faith immediately he started facing them, he could have justified himself saying “he is a just and righteous man, one who fears God and shuns evil” Job 1:3. But he didn’t because he had a ‘strong believe’ in God. As believers we should trust God even when things are tough (James 1:2-4).
To Rely on God is to rest with confidence (trust) in him. That point when you trust him too much to doubt him. When you trust God to the point when you are not looking for alternatives. For example:
A Lady sitting for an examination which she is already prepared (read, prayed) and she is trusting God to crown her effort with success.
On getting to the exam hall, if she had opportunities to copy answers from her friend without the examiner noticing her and still didn’t compromise because she trust God, then she truly rely on God. The wisdom of this world will tell you that it is foolishness but God’s own wisdom tells you that it truly is the right thing to do. As children of God we must learn not to compromise our faith in God for anything.
WHY DO WE NEED TO TRUST AND RELY ON GOD?
1. His plans towards us are for peace and well being, and not for evil (Jer 29:11, Isaiah 26:3).
2. He knows the end from the beginning (Rev 1:8, Isaiah 46:10, Jer 1:5).
3. He is God over all creation, the heaven is his throne and the earth his footstool. Nobody can dethrone him (Isaiah 66:1, Job 12:7-10).
4. He can never fail, He has never failed and He will never fail (Joshua 1:43-45, Luke 1:37).
5. He is Our Manufacturer (Gen 1:26, Romans 8:29)
