“Even as [in His love] He chose us [actually picked us out for Himself as his own] in Christ before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy (Consecrated and set apart for him) and blameless in his sight, even above reproach, before Him in love”.
Ephesians 1:4 (AMP).
For a while now, we have been studying the keys for faithful living, the first teaching on this series was centered on “The Love and Fear of God”, i explained the meaning of Faithfulness and how the love and Fear of God can help us live an upright life in the sight of God. In this article (the second teaching on this series) we will be studying another key for faithful living in God which is “Holiness”.
Holiness is the state or a condition of being Holy (Sanctity). The word holy simply means to be set apart (dedicated) from something unto something or someone else. Holiness is (Purity, perfection, faultless, flawless, sacred) in God’s sight. A person who is holy is Just in the sight of God.
“Holiness Keeps us in God’s own Righteousness”.
This key for faithful living is one which is very essential for all Christians. Any one who claims to be a sincere believer and he/she is not living Holiness is only deceiving his or her self.
Holiness is the lifestyle for all Christian. Jesus himself lived an holy life because that is the only lifestyle God accept. We are saved by God through Jesus Christ to be holy by the help of the Holy spirit in us (Eph 1:4).
“The Holy spirit is the spirit of God in us that helps us live a faithful and acceptable life”
The passage above tells us that God himself chose us even before the foundation of the world to be holy, i.e he had us in mind before creation that we should be holy. We are not saved by chance neither did God select us at random, God chose us consciously, it pleases him for us to live an Holy life. The blood of Jesus made us first Righteous (Upright Standing in God) Eph 1:7, Romans 11:26, 29, Isaiah 26:7. To continue in righteousness we must be Holy.
Jesus Christ came to take away the middle wall of partition between us and God (Eph 2:14,16), Jesus came to give us perfect redemption that through this we are saved. After Jesus left he sent the promise of the father (The Holy Spirit) to help us continue in righteousness. That by the leading and help of the holy spirit we continue to live an holy life. Jesus knew that after he left we will need a comforter just like him to help us continue in righteous living.
“We are able to live an Holy life by the help of the Holy spirit”.
God want us to be holy, if you think after the blood of Jesus have completely washed us clean from sin then we don’t need to continue living an holy life then you have missed it. If the blood of Jesus alone can keep us in righteousness then the holy spirit might have not been sent by God. We need the holy spirit to be in us if we want to live an Holy life.
The Holy Spirit came that he will teach us the way of the lord (John 14:26). After we have confessed and accepted Jesus, the Holy Spirit will then come into us to seal the truth in us, keeping us in Righteousness even as he leads us (Eph 1:13).
To be faithful to God we must be holy, we must be without fault. We are all like a white Garment completely stained with sin, so Jesus came that through his blood we can be washed clean from sin completely and after we are washed clean by his blood making us whole, the holy spirit dwells in us to help us stay clean always. To be faithful to God we need to make holiness our lifestyle.
If you are reading this article and you still haven’t accepted Jesus into your life, then you need to do so now, grace is available, this is the first step to righteousness, if you want to accept him now and be saved, then sincerely say this “Lord Jesus, i come to you today as a sinner, please come into my heart, come and wash me clean from sin, please let the Holy spirit dwell in me, that i will continue in righteousness, thank you Jesus”. If you have done this sincerely I congratulate you, now you are saved, flee from your bad ways, the holy spirit will come into you, surrender all to him, let him lead you, I pray the lord help you in Jesus name, Amen.
